Best BENZ wheel!

Okay, nominate via photo link.  Here's the current one I like best,
although I reserve the right to add more later

RE: Best BENZ wheel!

That's the CLK55 AMG wheel right? The fenders look like it's from a CLS though....

Here's my favorite Benz wheel:

It's the 19" Denebola 9-twin spoke wheel. It's sporty, yet elegant. Came standard on the Launch Edition S550's and is available on any W221 now.

Are we allowed to add more than one? If so, here's my second nomination.

My second one is the Rukbat 19" 6-spoke wheel from the W164 M-Class.

Wow that six-spoke is cool, and new to me.

However I am philosophically opposed to six-spoke wheels
unless there are six lugs to go with them..

Why are six-spoke wheels bad?

RE: Best BENZ wheel!

Well, the logic is that the physical stresses in the wheel
are perfectly distributed when the # of spokes is equal to or a multiple of the #of lugs.

Kinda like symmetry, only different

Has this been proven yet?

Well, I doubt it.  The logic is clear IMHO but I think in practice the stress differentials are relatively slight and/or easily managed by material strength.

Still, why have them (differentials) when you don't have to?

Okay, my 5-spoke nominations are the W221 S65 AMG wheel.

And the W220 S65 AMG wheels.

I love that wheel.  Good proportions and minimal detail.

What model(s)??

Yeah the nuts are perfectly proportioned.

Whose nutz?

BUT...... they're not aligned regularly with the spokes.

I think I've been set up!

Still a nice wheel.... if you have to go six spokes.

That looks like the Evo wheel for the W201. Almost all Evo wheels look like that....even the ones on the ML.

RE: Best BENZ wheel!

I think the trend today is toward fussier, more complex designs, and in particular there's some showing off among designers & engineers as regards how little material they can use.  I'm a traditionalist so a more-substantial design like that one suits my taste.

There's also a rebound effect now that starfish designs are available on the cheapest Hyundais.  Reminds me of the wood-and-leather steering wheel.  I guess the prestige mfr's are gonna have to drop that now that it's on a Hyundai too?

Haha, all of the wheels I posted are more "complicated" in design. However, IMO, the W221 Denebola isn't too complex...Like I said before, simple, sporty, elegant. IMHO.

It's only natural that young people are gonna like the more complex designs. Because the simpler ones are probably associated with "old hat". I'm a traditionalist anyway.

However..... I can tell without counting that this wheel has a number of spokes which is not a multiple of five

All you have to do is look at the lugs
