Comparison tested in the June '06 Car & Driver.

No contest of course

TK--it's all done in Chi-town too.

RE: S600 vs Phantom

Which S600 are you talking about? W140, W220, or W221???

I hope you are talking about the W140.

RE: S600 vs Phantom

Wasn't the V-12 600 having some crank bending/breakage issues?

yea, it is. But actually, I think I may prefer the Maybach to it.... The maybach seems more spacious.

The Phantom is huge, but it just seems so small and tight. I like the S better. The Phantom seems to be outdated. And I really wouldn't want to attract all that attention with an RR. I"ll be spending too much time cleaning finger and nose prints from the windows.

Funny you should mention--in the review, they listed the attention-getting factor under the Pros as well as the Cons of the RR.

In the end, though, as I said, it was no contest.  They pronounced the 221 the best sedan in the world.

I'd link it but it's not online yet...

RE: S600 vs Phantom

Oh another thing they said about the Phantom is how disappointed people are when it turns out to be just you in the back seat

^^^lol, I'd be pretty disappointed too. The S600 gives you nice elegant, yet agressive styling, but it does it in sort of a sleeper package. Even more so with the Maybach, since it's styling is similar to the W221/W220.

Re: S600 vs Phantom

I hear the phantom is slow. From all the reviews I have seen about RR or Bently basically they say if you want the best and latest go buy a Mercedes for half the price and you will get better build quality and technology that isnt from the 70's.

Lets just say I would rather have an S class that has crazy power and can do 0-60 in less than 4.5 seconds vs a slower RR that I think takes around 6 seconds or more to hit 60. Plus you cant beat all the great stuff in the S class tech wise.
