COMAND 2.0 MALFUNCTION - ???

After several months of flawless operation since my install, today my navigation system decided it did not want to play.

What’s more embarrassing, I was trying to impress a friend, and show him how good it was.

Anyway, after entering his address, the unit refused to go to the “NAVI Route Mode”.
It hung on the address page for about 15 seconds, then went back to the “NAVI destination entry” screen, which is the first one you see when you first activate the unit.

I ejected the navi disc, reloaded, and it came up with the “being loaded screen”.

I did notice however that the load progress bars were not present.

My first question, is this normal for the unit not to display the progress bars? Perhaps since it is the same disc, the program is already loaded into the unit. Is this normal?

I got home, somewhat troubled and attempted to find the problem. Unfortunately it refused to calculate the route, as the friendly voice usually advises.

I took the disc out again, and played an audio disc without any problems. To my way of thinking, this ruled out any laser / transport problem.

Reinserted the navi disc, and still no joy, refused to calculate the route.

By this time, I had spent 5 minutes swearing and cursing at the bloody thing. Not even its mother escaped my wrath.

What is more frustrating, is that every thing else on the unit works perfectly. Even when the unit is in map mode, and just scrolling whilst driving is working perfectly.

I am suspecting that there may be a problem with the disc, even though it does not appear to have any scratches, (other than some very fine hairline ones) or obvious damage.

The disc was brand new from MB, not a copy.

Can anyone help??

Regards,
George.

Uh, could you resolve it in the meantime, George? It might need a reset by removing a fuse, or might be temperature related. Poking around in the hidden menus might narrow the problem.... Peter Leubners magnum opum has the hidden menus described in section 19. Good luck!

If it is still under warranty, let the dealer handle it. Probably easier just to replace the whole unit if there is some underlying electronic gremlin.

Another reason I like paper maps. Guess that would have been really bad if you were someplace far from home.
