| Re-wiring the kickdown switch
G'day Guys,
I'm thinking of ADDING a manual switch (somewhere in the drivers door) which is connected to the kickdown switch. This would allow me to take-off in 1st gear and really, really piss-off those turbo rice burners at the lights. Does anyone know if any other components need modding as well?
Many Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum – that’s a great 126 you’ve got, some pics would be good.
MB engineers already anticipated this when they designed the transmission and gear selector. Simply put the car in 2 when desired and she’ll start in first. After you’ve smoked the competition shift to 3 for an up shift to 3rd and D as they disappear in your rearview. |

The 5.0 L engine was the only engine used for the entire production run. It’s the perfect size for the V8. What make them really cool is that 5.0 L engines were installed in the SWB cars, making them perhaps the best overall performing 126 sedans. |

I see,
yes, the 500SE. I once parked next to a 500SE. It was abused though, and after I found out that it was a Euro, I was really sad.
It was a white Euro 500 SE. I'll find the pics, and post them. |

Thanks for your reply, however I've tried the 2nd gear thingy but it doesn't work ( maybe 'cos mines a 1st gen?)
or could their be another reason. As for the pics, I'm rather hesitant at posting any pics of my car - it's been modded
a little and I recieve heaps for not keeping it original. Oh, by the way, MBZER invited me to the forum.
Cheers. |

No, the selector in 2 start in first is found in all MBs of this era. |

Check your kick down cable for proper adjustment. If you have power at the switch make sure that the electronics are secure on the drivers (US) side of the transmission. Good luck.
BTW... Where has MBZER been? Did immigration catch up with him?
