| Save that fuel control sending unit...
I figured out a way to re-solder the delicate wires on the fuel control sending unit. You can make a small loop out of other thin copper wire out of zip cord or whatever, and solder it to the contact. Then you've got a bit of slack to form an "L" shape at the end of the broken wire, stick it into the loop, and carefully bend it back to form its own loop and solder in place. You've got to be quick and careful or you will unsolder the extention loop while trying to solder the thin copper wire to it.
If you need the backstory, this fix is for a fuel gauge doing the jitterbug when fuel gets below about half a tank. It will also fix a dead fuel gauge. Take out the first aid kit box, and right underneath it is the sending unit. Unplug it, unscrew it (you'll need a monster crescent wrench or channel locks), take it out carefully (it will be full of fuel so have a pan ready) and then drain, disassemble and clean out the crud. If one or more of the wires is broken, solder per the above.
