Re: My new 'Black' AMG Monoblocks

What a lovely old coupe - that's a neat find!.
Something I heard on the radio today was about much higher emission standards coming in for imported cars as from January - will it affect the future import of such classics do you know?.

That will efect the late model stuff for sure. There is even talk about the oil burners being hit even harder, so anything pre-2004 won't be able to come in!
But I think the twenty year rule will still apply, so the older cars will be fine. Cars like the W210 won't be able to be imported. My E320 lands on Monday
Might get a few more to sell as they'll become harder to find next year...

Well then I guess the prices of those already in the country will go up too. You know they talk about that age of NZ's fleet but stuff like this makes it harder for alot of people to upgrade to newer so what do they do? They keep their even older cars....

RE: My new 'Black' AMG Monoblocks

I'm always looking on 'tradecarview'

Here's one with a WALD body kit that I'd love on my car
http://www.tradecarview.com/stock/detail.aspx?sid=586694

...and I'm pretty sure this one is the one I posted above but it's now with a dealer
http://www.tradecarview.com/stock/detail.aspx?sid=586696

Japan has thee best selection of these old things that I've ever seen
I'm trying to get there by early December, if I can't make it then I'll go in Feb '08
It sucks that I can't take time of in the Summer holidays as were very busy at work at that time of year and being the boss and all, the whole company will collapse without me because I'm such an outstanding manager
I'll prob sell the 500 to pay for the trip, my friend is moving to Tokyo at the end of June to make movies so at least I'll have a pad to crash at

Then I can look for one of these amazing cars to bring back for myself

I'll be heading up in July or August myself. The 126s are so cheap up there!

We should negotiate something....
I figure the cheap 126 window is a short term opportunity that should be raped and pillaged for what it is.
I'm happy to skin and dress the bunnies ready for the cookpot, and polish any Merc you want....how about a house paint?.

ha ha ha - only thing is that most are left hook up there, so we are limited to '86 and '87 560s. Our G Wagon loving friend (who I'm sure is still smiling after his drive) reckons LHD are worth nothing in NZ compared to the same vehicle in RHD... hard for me to say as I have just about always had a LHD car.
I personlay think the older a vehicle gets the less it matters what side the wheel is on. In fact when it comes to the Benz it can be an advantage, as many LHD cars have more options.
So an '87 560SEL in mint condition should be able to land here for seven with great ease. That would be a mint low milage one with all the fruit.

Wow, it's really that much, hmmm yea that LHD rule really sucks, whats the deal with this idea of limiting the age of imports if I ever wanted to get a new W140 out of Japan would I still be able to?

Re: My new 'Black' AMG Monoblocks

nup - not till it's 20 years old. Till the end of the year you can easily get '94 up 140s into NZ. If it has a TDN number on the de-reg you can bring in 92 or 93 models. Believe it or not '91 W140 can't be bought into NZ because according to our lot it didn't meet frontal impact. WHATEVER....

Re: My new 'Black' AMG Monoblocks

get an S500 - much better. Did you know that the air flow meters are $3000.... EACH on the V12!

Anyway, when's the next 126/107 (and maybe we'll let the 140 come he he he) gathering? We need to do a photoshoot. But get your driving gloves on as I want to shoot he cars in the alps...
