These diesel transmissions can start to show significant wear at 250,000 miles. Also the engine mounts, flex disk, and rear axel bearings should be checked. These are all fairly easy fixes. The transmission can run $1,800 and another $500 labor. The climate control and especially the A/C is prone to fail if not maintained over the years. The monovlave usually wears out, but that too is easily replaced for under $50. Lots and lots of vaccuum lines to maintain. Be sure the engine turns off with the key and the doors lock from the drivers door. RUST? Sunroof open/close? Window lifts? All should work.

Going to look (and possibly purchase) a 1981 300D with 240k miles on her today - AC is out, body and interior looks clean, was told it ran and idled smoothly...will see!!
