Adding Airbag (SRS) to '78 300CD, is is possible or practical?

Am interested in installing an airbag (SRS) in my '78 300CD. I believe MB started installing them in '82.5. At 77 horsepower I don't really go fast enough to get in much trouble yet due to the horrible drivers in this area and far too many SUV's I'd really like to get it done. I hope the later steering wheels are adaptable. Does anybody have any suggestions?

P.S. Was not able to find a similar thread via Search. Happy Holidays!!!

Perhaps here (yet) the topic has not been discussed but on other fora the issue has had a good hearing: the consensus is the project is to expensive and involved and the benefits too minimal to warrant such an effort. Also, all agree it is not a DIY job and may actually result in causing injury than preventing it.

just duct tape a nice pillow on the steering wheel....

adding airbags is not something a DIY person can do and could resault in injury. and plus the bags may not be good anymore unless you found brand new recently manufactured bags

it would be possible only if u got a complete setup out of a 123, and wired it in, but this is unpractical......

Absolutely not! Trying to install an airbag on a vehicle not originally equipped with one is extremely dangerous.

An airbag is a mini bomb in front of your face. If you insist on having an airbag, buy a car that already has one.

Don't!! The '79 300CD is a tank (I bought one new and drove it for 425K miles, then donated it and bought a new '84 300CD - which I'm still driving). your car is the predator, not the prey. The newer cars are so much lighter built that the 123 cars that a bag is much more of a neccessity.

That's good. I'd hate to see you posting about airbag burns if it accidentally went off for some reason.
