Catalytic Converter Alternatives

Greets.

Just an FYI. For those with the usual problem of broken Cat's (ie. rattling when you come up to a stop). There IS an alternative to the outrageous OEM parts replacement. Instead of the the $500-$900 PER SIDE dealer cost, I used Magnaflow cats, and had a "cut and splice" replacement done. Both sides were broken, and I'm beyond the 7Yr/80,000 warranty period.

The cost??? $125 each! Less than an hour to install both. Runs great, in fact, there is a slightly "throatier" sound. No performance difference, and not throwing any Codes.

RE: Catalytic Converter Alternatives

If 10% of the quality is an "alternative," then ... .

RE: Catalytic Converter Alternatives

After having TWO OEM cats go out at 90,000, I don't know how much I'd be touting the OEM product!

Considering they are SUPPOSED to last the life of the vehicle............... I think I will TRY an alternative at 1/8 the cost.

RE: Catalytic Converter Alternatives

I included a photo of the replacement Cats.

Magnaflow part# 53005. As you can see, I needed bilateral replacements. The "cut and splice" method worked out fine!
