1983 Price Lists

A little trivia I thought I’d share…

Ah, the good old days – in the US, anyway. Just the 107, 123 and 126. Note the only S Class cars available were the 3.8 L M116 sedan and coupe and the diesel sedan. The SEC was the most expensive car sold then, still a good chunk of change even today.

RE: 1983 Price Lists

Wow that was total fun!

1. Can't believe how much more the 300D was than the 240D.
Must have had a lot more equip than just the engine.  Well I can see some of that from the second chart.

2. Oh for the days when MB concentrated on a small lineup and did it well.

3. So right about the 380SEC price from 9/82... I used the Cost-of-Living Conversion Calculator at http://www.aier.org/cgi-aier/colcalculator.cgi and see that it's equivalent to $110,415 in 2006 dollars.  More than a CL500!

Yeah, if MB still built their cars today the way they did over 20 plus years ago they’d be very expensive.

Too bad we don't have the 190E price list. I believe it was the entry class model, but I bet it was still pretty high, especially if I take inflation into account.

RE: 1983 Price Lists

I could be wrong – and I’m sure someone will correct me – but the first 201 was an 84 model so it wouldn’t be on the list.
