jonnyboy Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | 560 random misfire under load Hi guys I have a uk '89 560SEL, as part of my "collection". She has had new plugs/dizzy cap/leads/rotor arm, but has a random misfire/stutter under load ie when accelerating (completely random). Due to the fault's random nature its like a needle in a haystack - when it doesn't happen she pulls like the absolute clappers, and idles very sweetly. Has anyone had a similar experience, and if so, what cured it? I dont want to spend £££000's on swap & see faultfinding, and speaking to my indi he reckons it could prove to be elusive even with all of his electronic goodies...... Thanks all.................. That’s the only way he can determine is there’s an issue with engine management, both the ECU and the many engine sensors. After he’s eliminated the fuel pump relay and EHA, he should do a fuel pressure test. After that he should check for air and vacuum leaks. That the engine runs perfect except for an occasional hiccup would lead me to believe it’s engine management.

I have replaced what you have, took out injectors and clean them , but still no joy.

Posts: 686 | Re: 560 random misfire under load Ok Johnny, heres a couple of things you need to do, take the air filter of, ie the complete box, you have two coils/switch/ sensors not sure what you call them, anyhow. one is attached to the metering head and the other one is on the other side, one is a cold start sensor and the other is something to do with the metering of fuel. Disconnect them one at a time by pulling the conector off, then replace the airfilter box and drive the car. from this you can determine which one is faulty, or that your ecu is in need of replacement.. I tried it and found out that the ECU was at fault. Edited by G wizz 5/3/2007 11:43 AM
