Retrofitting Hands Free Kit

I'm interested in retrofitting a hands free kit to my 2000 G-Wagen. It didn't come with a phone but it does have the multifunction steeringwheel with the controls for your phone. It also has a Mercedes RDS 10 (which I may upgrade to a RDS 30 to get nav).

I want to be able to use the in-cars functions such as the address book via the steering wheel etc.

Does anybody have any idea what parts I need? And can I use parts from another Merc as G parts are not so easy to get a hold of.

I'm trying to get an idea of how big a job this may be a possible cost to do.

Thanks.

Re: Retrofitting Hands Free Kit

I'd look to be installing the UHI system (changeable cradles), this will give you access from the steering wheel controls with address book on that centre display (dealer will need to configure that)

Have a look on http://www.mercupgrades.com at my upgrading integrated phone on ML - that wll give you some pointers as to the bits you need on a ML - (not a G, but it will give you the phone controller part numbers etc)
The 'installing integrated phone on CLK' is also useful, but that has the part numbers for the old fixed-cradle system for only Nokia phones.

You still need to find out
(a) if G wagen ever had UHI system (the exchangeable cradles)
(b) therefore the wiring loom part number for that, or alternatively use a C class loom from the correct model year, or use a retrfoit kit (contact me, I have one spare) which is generic.
(c) the ancillary parts (phone support, mountings etc, microphone)

The parts will be a few hundred quid, the expensive part (phone controller) comes up on Ebay regularly

Send me our chassis number and i'll look up the stuff on EPCnet for you

Re: Retrofitting Hands Free Kit

Hi
Steve @mbenznl.com will probably be able to supply a retrofit kit (i.e factory parts and specail wiring looms for you)

Alternatively, you need the following (maybee more) to fit this in the centre armrest (i've presumed the armrest is same as latest vehicle, you may need to modify things)
UHI pickup plate A463 820 06 11
Plate in centre A463 820 07 11
Wiring clamp A220 823 03 22
mounting parts A203 823 08 11
2x screw N007985 00410
2x nut N304032 00400
Microphone A220 820 17 35 (needs to be ordered in correct color)
4x screw A140 990 06 22
Wiring loom A463 820 57 15
wiring loom (antenna) A463 820 58 15
control unit (goes below plate in centre glovebox) A230 820 42 26 *European UHI system*
bracket A463 540 57 73
2x screws N0007981 003219
3x screw N000965 006056

I havent bothered with the 'e-net compensator' (booster) its expensive and they don;t bother to fit it anymore - also you need to find part number for antenna

Cheers
Richard
