| samhmbz Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: MAF Sensor Over time the air mass will "re-adapt" the fuel trim mixture adaptations ect.. or you can have the dealer reset it for you and clear you cel if its on. The adaptations are most likley out of range if the sensor is bad. This will cause you engine to run to lean or rich depending on how it is trying to correct itelf for emissions purposes. Sam | ||

| steve-p Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: MAF Sensor My E320 V6 has been a bit unhappy of late - full throttle acceleration tails off at around 4,000 rpm even though performance seems absolutely fine up to that point. It's still on the original plugs (at 105K miles) so I will be changing those anyway, but is this symptomatic of MAF sensor failure? | ||

| storm Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Re: MAF Sensor if your performance is fine till 4000K and your plugs are 105k old i'd suggest you try changing the plugs and filters first. If it is a MAF fault try cleaning it first (very gently), sometimes that is all it needs. Hopefully your problem will be resolved with new plugs and filters. Let me know how it turns out. | ||

Sam Just to get this straight because my CEL is on and during B service they diagnosd it to the MAF. Since the CEL would only come on later, I declined for them to reset it when asked. Now, I plan to replace the MAF myself. After replacing it, do I have to go back to dealer and ask them to clear/reset anything? If yes, what am I asking them to do? Thanks. | ||

Sorry for the delay, If you replace the sensor and your lamp is on, it will go off on its own(eventually) after passing multiple on board tests without failing.... A alot of shops could reset the lamp for you via a obdII scanner. A dealer or someone w/ a high tech or factory system could only reset you "adaptations" witch would inturn erase your mixture and fuel info and restart the cycle(typically you notice a increase in power after this) And I would advise you to drive the vehicle hard after resetting the adaptations so it re-adapts to firmer driving conditions. Anybody know of an element only swap? My e39 BMW uses the same element as a much cheaper Golf. After the swap the engine hiccupped once on restart and settled in a few seconds. As long as your O2 sensors are working it'll correct on the fly. MB 722.6x Transmission TCM Reset/Retrain Procedure By OhLord This procedure will set the factory shift points and rpm in the Transmission Control Module to crisp settings.The harder you drive the car the less noticeable the change. 1. car should be warmed up and off, all doors closed, 2. Climate control off, 3. radio off. 4. Turn key to on position (do not start) - just to the position that all the lights are lit up on the dash. 5. Put your foot on the gas pedal and press all the way to the floor (why you don't want it running!) 6.
