Radio Volume Control '97 E320

I turned down the radio in traffic today and when I tried to turn it up it seemed to have no effect. Later I was able to turn up the volume. I had a '99 E300 Turbo Diesel with the same radio, but I don't remeber this happening. Any insight?

Most likely your volume knob contacts on the inside are dirty, a shot of cleaning fluid (metal contact) should sort you out. Most stereo shops supply this fluid (with nozzle), but if not you can always get it cleaned by them. It should only cost a few dollars.

Worst case scenario would mean that your Auto Volume leveling (AVL) unit is acting up, but not very likely.

Did you ever resolve this problem? Mine is doing it too, and the only diagnosis I've seen is that the volume potentiometer is bad. I sure would prefer to know a little cleaning fixes it.

Cleaning helped, but it still acts up from time to time.
