Darkmann Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Update on Oil Leak I have attached a series of pics of what it looked like (these pics are from my 05 ML500 which I just found out yesterday has the same problem). On the E, the shop diagnosed it to a valve cover gasket, approximately $264.00+tax to fix. I feel so much better now. Someone else on the other forum had commented that it could be the oil collector, and that may still be the culprit - we'll see after I have it fixed. BTW, on this trip, they replaced my noisy power steering under their goodwill repair policy since the noise started while I was still under warranty, the found a bad ball joint - est, $425.00 for both sides, and a whopping $560.00 for both front pads and rotors. I will do the brakes myself but will let them handle the ball joints and valve cover. Are these prices in line with what others pay? Except for the brakes, the other two items seem pretty OK in price. Let us know if the gasket was the culprit or if it's the collector? The collector is basically a DIY. Since the E is driven sparingly, I will have the ML done first. If after several thousand miles there's no wetness (say end of fall), I would conclude that it's the gasket. Then I'll have the E done (hopefully the cost will not move too too much). Meanwhile, I will still pull out the collector for inspection. But we'll keep you posted. | ||
