Re: 300 E 1983

that is the secondary cooling fan........it operates while the air conditioning is on, depending on temperature........

it can be hot-wired so it runs whenever the car is on, but this is bad, as it draws too much from the battery.....

Re: 300 E 1983

Let me explain you some geografic questions. This car is in Parana a state in the south of Brazil that make frontier with Argentina and Paraguay , near the Iguacu falls. Brazil and Argentina have now a very organized importation control (more than normal for cars , engines and machines because the Kyoto protocol). At 1983/1989 - the time of this swap I imagine - things are diferent and Paraguay a free port use to " export" lots of electronics and engines , for brazil on the grey market. So its very possible that this engine had not been declared to Brazilian custom and Brazil transit control dpt. Only a question of do not pay taxes ! So the engine has entered ilegaly in this country if as you say and i believe we are talking about a 952.

If that is the case there are ways to put things in order , using the law permitions cause this engine has more than 20 years and paying some small taxes. The biggest problem will be the emissions levels test. We always can close a bit the diesel pumb !

I saw many things in the EPC and there are a lot of 617s models - This one has the oil radiator near the water radiator- but i didnt see the selled water recipient . But i didnt see it in the EPC when i navigate on the 617952. I think only station wagons had it.....What your opinion?

I asked MB using the EPC subscrition i have why i cant see this chassi data.

The kind of air filter in the pics is used in a engine code 617 913 ( i think thats the number) - so we have cats and dogs here...LOL.

Other hand the documents are ok and car has no federal or states debits....so....There will be a funny game to play and at the end a nice W123 to go dinner with wife.

thanks for your interest my friend !!!!

PS - For the moment i will let my 300GE with the stock engine , very realible and working like a swiss watch.

Re: 300 E 1983

yeah, i would be surprised if the government wanted to bother you about the motor.......its over 20 years old!!!!!

if u have to go to emmissions, fill up with Biodiesel.........if they dont sell Biodiesel in your area, then put some vegetable oil in with your diesel, and take the emmissions test........it will help.......

as far as i know, all OM617.952 Turbodiesels came with the Oil Cooler, mounted next to the radiator........the automatic transmission is cooled through a passage in the bottom of the radiator.......u will see the 2 connections down there.......
