iNeon Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | A question, mostly about the w202 KellyBlueBook gives a 1995 w202 c220 with standard optioning and 60,000 miles a price of $6,200.00. That's not too bad, and I simply adore the styling and drive-line configuration. I know I'll lose 10+ MPG, some reliability and some of the fun that only a spunky domestic car can offer, but I'd be gaining rear-drive, some safety and perceived value. Questions being: Do youall think it'd be possible to find such an entry-level car in pristine condition with this low a mileage? Would it be futile to try and use such a car daily? We once bought an absolutely mint 1987 Taurus with 62,000 miles in 1994. It was a nightmare-- Looked factory mint, but every sub-system was rebuilt multiple times. Dad blamed it on the car not seeing regular use-- is that a likely story? I know European automobiles are smaller than the domestics, but will my 5'9" 160 pound frame be comfortable in a miniBenz? The neon is the same size as a w124... Lastly-- Would I look cute in it?

Of course, the seller is an unknown quantity and it's in Calif, but it's the first one I saw...

$14K at Feretti Motors in PA. More than you want to spend, but oh so sweet..

They actually have more class and add more visual interest than that stupid automatic stuff. If it were automatic-- I'd want the earlier 3-pod design.

iNeon Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: A question, mostly about the w202 I'm afraid to. I've had my leon so long, I seriously get emotional when I think that our time together is nearing it's end. Honestly-- A headgasket, fuel pump and window regulator. In 10 years and 153,000 miles-- a consistent 40mpg on the interstate and an air conditioner that STILL will freeze you in an Alabama summer. I'm afraid I'll like it too much-- and they seem to carry a 100% premium for having low mileage.

Then I sucked it up and just did standstill full throttle accelerations on the new one. I can break traction for about a second and leave a 3-4 inch patch of rubber. You were 5 when I went to the dealership and checked little boxes until the perfect car for me was written down on paper. I then waited a few weeks, and went to the dealer and drove off with this absolutely perfect transportation bubble-- exactly as I'd pictured it in my mind since I first visited the dealership to view the first neons that had arrived. heh heh it really was a dream come true, as sappy as that sounds. 10 years of cigarettes put out in the ashtray-- 10 years of new cds eagerly put into Dolores the CD player as soon as I'd left the store-- 10 years of tearing up the roads when I was mad or hurt-- 10 years of love and tears, of accidents and accomplishments. 10 years of rushing home to relay good news, or bad. I'm terribly sentimental.

(Although it must be admitted, Europeans and Japanese are the smokers) Yep-- I was the first person to smoke in the 240D-- felt special to ruin that 30 year-old pristine ashtray What makes you think smoking in an automobile ruins it, and why are you assuming the cars will outlast us?

I'm terribly sentimental. :) I understand absolutely fine iNeon. I just don't show it. We had a 1997 Nissan Maxima SE. My parents too checked off all the boxes and waited a few months before they could drive it. I was 6 when we bought that car. That car was supposed to be mine when I got my license. That thing was babied like you've never seen before. The paint barely showed any scratches or swirl marks, the interior was flawless. Not odd smells (never smoked, no one in the family does, no fast food or anything ever in the car). No stains no nothing. Not a single crack on the leather anywhere. It still had the new car smell after almost 10 years! It only had 73,000 miles when we sold it 2 years ago. I was heartbroken. I truly loved that car. I learned almost everything I knew about cars with that one. How to change the oil, fill up the gas tank, how to wash it, do a bunch of maintenance work, change a tire, almost everything.

You get similar styling, better mileage and a longer lasting engine. Diesel's rule! I'd be likely to believe you if I didn't know there was a 200% mark-up on low mileage diesels Show me a diesel-powered car with less than 70,000 miles on it for less than 10 grand, please. This is all likely in vein-- I know I can get 150k very reliable miles of use out of a small Chrysler for $13,500.00-- will a 10 year-old Benz be that trouble free? It simply can't be. I know that, but my mind keeps drifting to the thoughts of it's possibility. Admittance Councilors willing-- I'm off to Graduate School this fall.. I simply can't have a trouble-prone car, and that fact is weighing very heavily into this decision. I'll have to commute from Birmingham to Tuscaloosa(75 miles or so) at least twice a week. I'm just not wholly convinced that a w202, even a ridiculously low mileage one, can serve me as well as any new car can. Warranty would be a Godsend in the event that the car did break, and a 1995-2000 model car isn't going to have much of a warranty. I really wrestle with this decision-- that's why I'm trying to get everyone's opinions months in advance of the actual decision! AML-- it's a hallmark of a man that's getting older; to trivialize the opinions and beliefs of those younger than he! I apologize for dismissing your statements as those of a young man that doesn't know any better! I'll do better by you, I promise.

iNeon Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: A question, mostly about the w202 I stopped and looked at a few new cars today-- The Caliber is pricing out around 16 with power package, 5-speed and decent trim. The PT Touring is right at 15 with many more options and the 5-speed/better torque in it's older style engine The Patriot is 16 with base trim, manual everything, a/c and CVT, so 15 with the manual. I saw a used 300 base with the 2.7 and 5-speed automatic, hubbies and normal trim for $17,500, but it was the same color as my Sister's van(medium pearl green) so that colored my view of it hehe I don't know at this point-- there was a used 2003 limited PT with the wood paneling package, dark taupe suede/leather, seat heating, TCS, ABS, Turbo, moonroof and chrome wheels for $9,900, but it had 48,000 miles. Car shopping is confusing whenever you're spending your own money!
