Hey guys!

just showing you my 1983 230e. Was wondering a few things...
1. my car seems to back fire when i take the accelerator off, also when above 3500 revs it blows abit of smoke. some people have said this is a tuning problem, is this correct? if so can any mechanic tune the car? 2. can you put any air filter on these mercs? was just looking for something abit better for the car, not really for peformance (its not a race car :P) is it worth getting an after market one? if so which one? 3. my reverse lights have stopped comming on when i put the car in reverse, which makes it really interesting reversing at night :P is this a common problem? i guess i will just take it to an auto elec and get it fixed? or can i do it myself? 4. thanks to the soft merc suspension and the tyre going up into the guard, the chrome wheel arch moulds i bought and put on the car are being pulled down by the rubber. any ideas on how to stop this occuring? 5. the car seems to be using ALOT of oil. is this common? any way to stop it using so much or is it a problem that needs to be fixed?

if you read all that thank you very very much!! also if you would like to comment on my merc good or bad please feel free and any advice on these cars would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Nathan

P.S. thanks to justin for pointing me in the right direction!

P.S.S the car really needs a polish and the celica is my brothers car!

Welcome!

In those days all MBs were born LHD.

Love the wheel covers – the arch trim I could do w/o; otherwise a nice example.

RE: Nathan's 230

hey guys!

thanks for the comments!! and yeah the indicators are clear ones - my mate got them off ebay!! and the headlight covers came with the car, they make the headlights and the indicators blend in (without the covers the indicators look slightly darker). I tinted the rear lights with can tint dodgy i know, but they turned out ok. Those whitewalls are hard to keep clean!! as im sure you all know but love em the stereo has cost abit :P thinking of extending it abit... but yeah my brother has told me to get air bag suspension. my dads owns a classic car dealership here in QLD so he doesnt like the stickers either... says it ruins the car and ive taken the front sticker and dub sticker off now but leaving brotherhood on cause i must say its what i believe in!! (P.S. its not a wanna be gangsta thing i swear!! it just means i treat my friends like brothers and have respect for people and other ideas that they have and dont like conflict) but i understand alot of people arent big fans of huge stickers. i have to say too im jealous of alot of your cars guys esp. that beamer coupe... and its awesome to see some really good original cars... and i wanna get a ride in one of these turbo D's. anyways look foward to talking with you all in the future and if there is anything i might be able to help with i will definatly have a try, thanks again, Nathan.

and just wanted to say thanks alot for making me feel welcome...

RE: Nathan's 230

What with the black smoke and the oil usage you appear to be burning oil, which isn't unusual for a car this old.

How many miles?  I expect it's probably valves at the least.

Have you checked underneath the car to make sure it's not leaking?
