w164 tire rotation ?

I plan to rotate my tires at 5K. What do you guys do: simple Fronts to Backs, Backs to Fronts ? or Fronts to Backs, and Backs cross to Fronts ?
They are same size, and after tire rotation, should the TMPS work as usual or they will need the dealer re-activate ?
Any experience would b appreciated.

I rotate fronts to back and cross the backs to the front. I got 30k miles out of my factory Continentals with very even wear.

TMPS?

Re: w164 tire rotation ?

Thanks, Dutch. You always have good experience.
TPMS is the right combi. I guess that they stand for Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Someone has said that after a tire rotation, their TPMS started alarming and can not be re-set by anybody other than the dealers ....;(((((((((((((((

Since I run 32 in the front and 38 in the rear, if I don't readjust the tire pressures to their new locations, the TPMS will indicate a problem. The reset is quite easy, as described in the owner's manual. Maybe that "someone" didn't know how to read their manual.

RE: w164 tire rotation ?

Where do you put the jack stands without doing damage to the underbody? I took my wheels off immediately after getting it home from the dealer and couldn't see a place to put the jack stands after jacking it up so I ended up just doing a good cleaning on the wheels - front and back - and putting them back on - one at a time.

You're right about no place to put the jack stands.

I use the spare tire as a "place holder" when rotating the tires. It means jacking that corner up twice, but it's no big deal.

RE: w164 tire rotation ?

Thanks Dutch. Great idea! I will do that. With the recent snow we've been having it will be time to give the wheels and wheel wells a good cleaning again anyway and this time I can rotate the tires.
