Pretty obvious, I know. But it means that one of your coils needs replacing. Either that or there is a short circuit occuring on the power cable to the coils. Check the route see if there is any rubbing against the body. Attached is a description of the ignition system, P13 provides a circuit diag for the coil if you fancied checking each one with a multimeter to see if one shows a diferent reading to the others. Intermitent electrical faults are tricky to trace. Momentary fault, blows the fuse, then back to normal when you connect the SDS. Perhaps the diagnostic computer can give you a readout of ignition timing for each cylinder while the engine runs, to show which one is the odd one out.

My 1999 G55 is facing similar issues as Mike faced some years back. I was driving home and started to loose power with a miss. Thankfully I managed to get home and once in neutral when reving the engine still had a miss. After shutting the engine down hoping to reset the fault it now will not start. It cranks fine but wont start or try to fire as though there is no spark. So far I have replaced most of the things listed by Mike but still nil fix, K40 swapped with spare New CPS fitted Fuse 25 for the ignition coils has continuity Fuel pump swapped with a spare and with a jumper wire to the battery forced the pump to run to build up fuel pressure New batteries fitted to key fob and confirmed the red IR light is illuminated MAF sensor replaced about 6 months back No CEL illuminated Plugs to the ECU removed and re-seated I am now at a loss of what to do next as it is dead as a dodo, then engine spins over and cranks fine but just wont fire. I will probably try disconnecting the battery for a day to let it fully down power for a good period of time but doubt this will help. Any further thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Fuse 10 which powers the system is fine. Edited by colsG55 9/12/2024 9:08 AM
