We had planned already for some time, to check out some areas, where the French mining company Boleo (Santa Rosalia), had established some ranches about hundred years ago. We could see the remaining outlines, buildings, corrals and water canals on Google Earth. The water canal systems were of especially interest, as another friend (Juan) tries to supply his 250+ cows (and my 3 cows) with water all year around. The area is very arid, the rainy season is short - it might now rain at all. The needed water is captured from wells and springs, and channeled to the corrals and fields. Our first trip stop was at my friend ranch San Alberto, to see the ongoing testing/growing of some special feed grasses. The overnight camping spot at the Bahia Santa Ana, on the shores of the Sea of Cortez. The next day was spend visiting the old Boleo ranches, where the food was grown for the many workers in their copper mines. Enjoy the few pictures, I was able to take.....
