I am chasing water inside the front floorboards. I replaced the wiper shafts, linkage and seals last year. I am now thinking that rain water is entering the fresh air vent box under the hood and maybe the drain tubes are rotted and leaking water into the floor boards. Has anyone ever accessed the drain tubes and replaced them? If yes, how do I do that? It’s water, not antifreeze entering the cab. 1993 500GE Thank you. Alex

Hi Alex, Another place you need to check is under the bottom of the windshield rubber seal. If there has been voids in the sealant, water will collect and rust out the channel that the windshield sits in. I had that happen on another vehicle. It rusts out the bottom of the windshield channel without you ever seeing it untill you start finding water on the floor boards. I have a post about this in the DIY section. Sealing the rubber windshield strip. http://www.pointedthree.com/disc/forums/showthread.asp?tid=16261&po... Reg

I replaced both door gaskets last night. I also closed the air intake flap and put a plastic bag over it. It’s raining today. I’ll see if I have water inside tomorrow. If not, I will put a slow running water hose in the air box and see if water comes into the floorboards. I changed he sunroof seal a few years ago. It could be the windshield gasket but I’ll check other things first. The water appears to be coming from the left top side of the center console and running across the floorboard. I’ll update when I figure this out. Thanks Alex

Remember that the sunroof seal isn't there to keep out water. Water gets past it pretty easily. There are drains in the four corners of the sunroof mechanism that drain down the A & B pillar voids through tubes. If those are plugged, you will often see headliner stains.

The water is coming in down the right outside foot well . The area where the speaker is located. The side panel of carpet is wet. I lifted the corner of the windshield gasket (outside) and water drained out. I’m going to pull the glove box liner and run a water hose over that corner of windshield and see if water comes in. Thanks for all of your insights and help. Any additional thoughts are welcomed. Alex

When I removed the glove box liner and ran water over the windshield, water would deep in and run down the inside of the firewall. This might have also caused a problem with my EZ control Unit. I purchased a new factory gasket, had the windshield removed. I found the beginning of rust in two places on the lower frame, surface rust. Sanded that off, primed the frame. Then when the windshield was reinstalled the frame had glazing putty and a non hardening sealant bead run around the inside of the frame. I hope this is the end of that problem for many years. The windshield gasket was replaced 10 years ago when the G was repainted. It does not appear that they used any sealant at that time. Thanks for all of your input and help. AGuess

Hi, windshield gasket seems to be a common cause for such kind of leak. I had the same with my 1993 350GD. Windshield was replaced but not the gasket - lot of water inside.

I am having the same problem, except I see water on the drivers side floor board too. Interesting that its the windshield passenger side lower corner showing rust. I have rust there as well. Did you do the gasket replacement yourself? Anybody have experience with it. This is something I will tackle this summer.

I had a glass replacement company do the work and I purchased the new gasket from MB. They also put a lot of sealant around the windshield frame when installing the new gasket and windshield
