key won't turn, lock unlock no work

so parked my 2004 g500 about 2 months ago.
one tire has an air leak so it it was flat I fixed that but i think the car alarm went off. I was going to unlock the car to shut it off but didn't as it stopped - think this might have been an error.
so a few weeks pass and no start battery dead.

charged it up over a few days unplugged it and assumed it would work few days later but the car won't recognize the key

today battery is charged 12.2 after sitting few weeks and 12.35 on charger.

I can put the key in the ignition but the car won't recognize it or that I put a key in.
key fob won't turn alarm on or off I have 2 fobs one is fairly new and hardly used. red light flashes on the key fob.

if I put the metal key in the driver's door it locks unlocks the door physically but not electronically.

I did have a fob just fail a few years ago It worked when it wanted to. the older of the 2 I have might have started doing the same thing
occasionally while driving all the dash lights would flash.

but the new key fob didn't do this but it's hardly used so maybe not the best data point

so today the car won't recognize any key

looking for ideas

RE: key won't turn, lock unlock no work

If you have access to a MB star system, clearing the codes and looking at faults could solve it.

I have not done much diagnostics on the 2002+ G500s, but the system has more functionality than a commercially available code reader.
Most MB indy shops have the MB software and could get it going for a lot less than the dealer.

I bought my C3 Star clone system from a seller on eBay and it has saved me a lot of money over the years.
