| LHD G500 W463 1999 Classic /Jubilee LWB chassis availability
Hi guys
Haven't posted on here for a while, apologies for that.
My LHD G 500 is in need of a new Chassis here in the UK (ravages of salt). MB Dealer tells me they're no longer available new. Surprises me. Can anyone here confirm that is the case or if so, any sources of good used, anywhere within Europe?. It may have to be parted out otherwise and I really don't want to do that after 18 years ownership.
Any input really appreciated.

Hi David, I think it is possible to buy a complete body from Puch.at
I have seen them for sale on their website.
It would also be possible to substitute a single cab body onto the frame and add an aluminum bed to make a pick up if that would interest you.

Thanks for that Eric. Never thought of checking Puch. Although it's a chassis I'm chasing up and not a body shell, they may have something.

On the frame it seems that the corrosion affected parts are the rear shock and spring perches, body mount cups and the cross tubes. these can all be replaced or repaired although there is some cost. I have a 1999 G500 which I have replaced the rear frame shock and spring perches. it was not inexpensive to have them replaced professionally. I have a body mount holder that also looks like it is due, but does not seem as critical. If you were to lift the body off the frame for a full frame restoration, that would seem to be the most effective way to solve the issues. The main frame rails are quite thick and usually only need surface resatoration and new paint.
The frame can be replaced of course ith a donor frame, they are commonly available int the USA through automotive salvage yards with minimal rust. For a 1999 model, any 463 frame or late 461 frame should work. If I was to replace my fame, my choice would be a heavy duty Canadian army version despite their much higher weight. |
