Is the turbo on the 96 300d g wagen computer controlled? If yes, has anyone installed an aftermarket chip?

I dont think any turbo are computer controlled. the wastegates maybe on some diesels but the turbo its self is just setting there on the manifold.
The power a chip / programmer gets you on newer diesels is from the maping of the fuel / timing etc...
I doubt any one makes anything for a Diesel G.
If the internals are will hold more power could turn the bost up, or install a larger turbo... |

They make them for the 99 turbo diesel e300. I believe I should ask if the engine on the 96 g300d is computer controlled. My 93 turbo diesel benz does not have a computer that controls boost and other things so a chip is not available.

Yes you can get it chipped - about $300 USD. You can get the chips on either eBay or from Orc.
I am of course assuming you mean a G300 TD rather than a 300 G which has been turbo'd.

Correct. Thanks for the clarification. I am in the learning phase. Also, I know there are all of 3 96 Turbo Diesel Gs in the US.
