2014 G550 Maintenance warning

Hi Everyone. My 2014 G550 has 129K miles. A few things to watch for.

1). My radiator overflow tank, had a small leak at the sending unit. This allowed antifreeze to weep down the wire and into the front sam unit. The front sam unit shorted out.

2). On the front right side of the engine, there is an oil pump and the seals go bad, this causes oil to mix into the antifreeze.

3). The idler pulley just froze up, causing the serpentine belt to shred. I was on a country road with no shoulder to pull off on. Loss of power steering, alt light came on, temp shot to red, just as I could turn into a housing development to stop. Temp hit red for one minute before engine was turned off. That was enough time for plastic in bottom of radiator to crack, the top radiator hose was sucked flat.

Resulting in a new radiator in addition to the new idler pulley. So, I now think the idler pulley should be replaced around 100K miles just as a preventative measure. That would have been a lot cheaper.

Stay safe.

Re: 2014 G550 Maintenance warning

geesh!! Sorry to hear about your luck

sounds like a lot of this bones connected to the that bone situation!

I have been shopping ~2014s. Have yet to find one that has checked all my boxes. I also keep circling back to my dead reliable '91 diesel that has no electronics. While I want something faster, it's hard to part with something so reliable.
