Squealing Brakes - Again

With the weather finally turning decent for the UK, I've been able to go topless

Anyway, I've noticed that my brakes are squealing. This happened last year, and I had the car in and out of the garage but they just couldn't seem to get it sorted.

So before I take the car in again, I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions?? Annoyingly it doesn't seem to happen all the time, yesterday it started occurring as I was crawling home through the traffic. Whenever I braked the rear wheels squealed (high pitch sound of metal scrapping), but I then found that as I was accelerating, that they were squealing then - this was without foot on the brakes but whilst bringing the clutch up ... (Which it hasn't done before).

I'm going to be doing a 120 mile trip over the weekend, so am going to see how it behaves during that - this really is starting to annoy me

Thanks

Sorry to hear that Bev, might have to take it back to the dealer to have it checked out or take out the wheel and have a look for yourself to see if anything is stuck on the brake caliper and or rotor.

Bev, take the car out, do a number of "moderate" braking runs. Then do a couple of reverse stops. Then do a couple of "hard" braking (forward).

That might clear it up. If not then off to a specialist.

Thanks for the tips Ynot, and bloflin - I'll give them a try this weekend. I just find it weird that it doesn't happen all the time?? Oh well - least I've only an hour left in work - woohoo!!!

I have the same problem. I have had the car in twice now and still have the issue. It is really annoying as they squeal very loudly. Sounds like a city bus coming to a stop!

Bev, forgot to add there is a TSB out for squealing brakes (though it's written only for front brakes), it's: TSB Number: P-42-10-51 and is up there in IANX's TSB sticky at the top of the forum.

Correction, actually there are 5 updates to that TSB over time, the lastest being: TSB Number: P-42-10-51E. All are in the sticky.

I hadn't noticed that, so will take a look and see if that sheds any light - thanks
