petermerle Expert Date registered: Apr 2006 Location: Cape Town ( deep south ) Vehicle(s): W460 *1, W123 *2, W124 Posts: 1315 | Engine mount stripped - no rplacement available I have stripped the left engine mount on my 1981 G and part is no longer available - I have several choices 1. Weld up and retap 2. Drill and get heli coil fitted 3. Drill right through so that a bolt and nut can be used. Has anyone tried option 3 ? Drilling through the top, and the subsequent machining of the top face required for a flat face to seat the nut or bolt head would significantly weaken the structure. Welding will also be chancy as far as inclusions, brittle/hard spots, what have you. With a helicoil, it'll be better than new. All things considered, it's probably the cheapest option too. Of course there's always option 4 to use yours as a pattern and have new fabbed from plate steel - then use the nut and bolt approach. -Dave G. Edited by hipine 3/13/2007 2:25 PM | ||

This is a more robust fix than the heli-coil and much less likely to back out or strip. The brand I used when I used to build Porsche enignes was Time-Sert. I assume they are still available. The procedure is 1. Drill out with supplied drill bit 2. Countersink with supplied countersink 3. Tap with supplied tap 4. Screw in the Time Sert 5. Set the Time Sert with the "roll thread tap" that comes with the kit. | ||

It sounds like they are very similar to the TimeSert. On the DC Classic website the part A6152241704 is listed as available from Classic centre ! Why does the EPC-NET report it as unavailable ! Price is a pretty hefty Euro 162. PEter | ||

Just to make sure how accurate the information on "Mercedes Benz Classic Center" web, punch the number: A463-820-07-59 This is new HID Xenon headlight unit for 2007 G-Class, we received these parts at late December but they are still "unavailable"? | ||

I also believe it lists parts that the Classic Centre itself has in stock . New parts for new vehicles are not listed. My local dealer says he can order the part - eventually had it repaired using a helicoil insert. Cheers Peter | ||
