ianx, manchester Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Fight Club I suppose its a case of closing the stable door after the horse has bolted. @malibuite: you know how lots of the UK members were always discussing fight club - well this is what it was ;-) but we were sworn to secrecy. right, i did extensive testing on North American Units last year courtesy of Esselkay350 and a couple of others. Although this brings up the menus OK, since those units do not have DVD decoding chips, you won't get dvd playback. (not even if you change your region using the 5-3-7 trick first - we tried all that! and various other things) Second thing - MB changed the codes on all units i believe in Decade 1 Feb 2006 - so it will no longer work on newly delivered cars. A firmware update is planned, possibly at your next service to reverse this, or maybe even on the next Nav DVD update. I don't know which!

da_nailgun Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: Changing COMAND so you can drive and watch DVD's Of course im not endorsing it. I think its stupid. I did how ever put a music dvd in my car today and was listening to the songs, but only looked at the screen when i stopped at lights etc. Its a stupid thing to have in a car, unless its in the back seat. BUT, people always want what they cant have. So, once someone found a way to do it.. I did it, so now i can say.. HAHA i can watch dvd's while driving. If you know what i mean. ianx, manchester - 4/27/2006 9:37 AM You don't need me to tell yo that driving and watching DVDs is one of the most stupidest things you can be doing. but i'm going to tell you anyway, in case anyone thinks we are endorsing it

bloflin Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: Changing COMAND so you can drive and watch DVD's Couple of things to add. For me easy to get to Engineering Service menu (first step) is easy. However getting the additional menus to appear (second step) is VERY hit or miss for me. Only got it 3 times out of about 50 trys. Regardless, doesn't do anything for US cars anyway (as Ianx and others have said). Second point, there are menus in there that CAN MESS UP YOUR CAR (or at least your COMAND unit). Bite your finger, and avoid that urge to push everything. On every car forum I'm on, once a service mode or backdoor menu hack is published, within a month there is someone posting, "I've screwed up, what do I do". If you were the type of kid that put your finger in the wall socket the first time, even though you knew it was trouble, but just wanted to see for yourself, then stay away from secret service modes.

Ian, thanks for the invitation! LCT, as I learned from another forum, means Low Cost Teleaid. Teleaid is a feature in MB cars delivered to the U.S. It's free for the first year but costs about US $65/annually thereafter. You can press the "i" button found in the upper chamber of the central console and it will connect you to a technician at MBUSA 24/7. One can ask for info or instructions, e.g., if you forget certain features in the COMAND/NAV or ask that the car be unlocked remotely (in this case, you can't press the "i" button since you've been locked out but I have the teleaid no. stored in my mobile phone). I don't know what "Holland MMI" means.

Yeah, just go back into the menu, and revert to the original settings which of course you made a note of ;-) in case you didn't note them do the 5-3-7 trick, that changes everything back to the defaults.
