Re: Military Gs

Hi Phil,

the LAPV 7.X sure has portal axles below. The concept is based on a small UNIMOG (presumably U 90) frame, axles, etc...with a G body (a little wider and with heavy armorplating) and an OM 642 engine.

Yep. MB certainly has all the parts to build that in-house. I won't ask for the MRSP, though....

Hi Ace - yes you are right! My guess is an overall weight of 5.4 metric tons.

What axles do these vehicles got, I see 6-bolts on the wheels?

Re: Military Gs

Wow, a G with UNIMOG roots and parts!! I like it very much. I have always been very impressed with the UNIMOG. I imagine that the portals would have to be either 404 or 416's with maybe super-fast gears or it would be limited to about 45 MPH. I would like to see more pictures of the LAPV 7.X. Thanks for posting it.

RE: Military Gs

Way@Out - 3/10/2010 1:38 PM Does anyone know if the Canadian military G lift is a result of springs or different body mounts? Strange that they leave Graz with Canadian plates, thought that would be done after delivery.

I got a good look at one a few weeks back at a festival. The Canadian Armed Forces had a display set up. Among many other things, there was a G. I got a good look at it (no detailed photos allowed) and noticed a large spring spacer on the top of the springs - I would estimate about 2.5 inches or so. In addition to this, I believe they use the tallest/stiffest springs. It is definitely a suspension lift. All of the radius arms have drops on the frame mounts to keep caster corrected. There are factory photos of this from several years back. Do a search on the G forum.

They get delivered with plates because they are oftentimes sent directly to where the forces are stationed - ie, Afghanistan, etc, having never even touched Canadian soil yet. That style of plate is on all of our military vehicles.

Steve

I think this is a 280CDI as used by Dutch Commando's in Mali:
