Re: I Love My SLK, But Oh, You Lambo!!!

Yup, I also have the EVO mag with that report. I just was pressed for time and didn't bother writing up the entire reason for the expensive clutch job.

I've seen a few 360 Modena's being services, and they too require quite a bit of work such as removing the seats and carpeting to access the various bits and pieces behind the seats.

So, front engined cars for the win then

Just kidding... If you can buy a Murcie, you can afford the clutch jobs. It's part of the expensive of ownership for a supercar.

RE: I Love My SLK, But Oh, You Lambo!!!

I was just reading the June C&D, which had a cover story on the convertible Gallardo vs. a F460 Sypder. It was interesting not only because the Ferrari spanked the Lambo in almost every department, but the 0-60 time the magazine reported for the Gallardo was the same as they had reported for the SLK55!

Performance aside, I think that the Ferrari-Lambo choice boils down mainly to one of image: Ferrari as the long-standing racing icon, symbolized by the almost reclusive Enzo Ferrari, now a character of myth; Lamborghini as the outrageous upstart, founded as a challenge to Ferrari himself by a fellow Italian industrialist who enjoyed throwing down the gauntlet. Even the colors tell it all: Ferrari "Rosso Corsa" (Racing Red) vs. pearl lime, orange and yellow. The iconoclastic designs of Lamborghini over the years clash with the traditional design cues of Pininfarina, of which they are immensely proud. It's Ford vs. Chevy, Mercedes-Benz vs. BMW, just kicked up a notch. One thing is certain: it certainly gets everyone talking!!! Dinoman

That "thing" you have for the Gallardo Spyder is called a pulse - these cars are simply bad ass. I just can't imagine anyone thinking otherwise. These may be a maintenance nightmare - but just look at them. They leave me speechless. I am spoiled here in the OC. I see several dozen every week of every kind, style, and color. It's enough to make dreamers of us all.

In the pics below, of particular note is the burgandy Murcialago - may be a one-of-a-kind. The owner had Lambo sew his family crest into the headrests. Totally cool!

I know this is an MB/R171 page, but as a car lover, I can't resist sharing these with you guys. I know you can appreciate the beauty of these cars. Here is a better pic of the burgandy Murci. YIKES!

Beleriand, This is a lot like a married man looking at other women unashamedly. We may all be SLK owners, but we're not dead! No one who appreciates fine machinery could be criticized for drooling over either the Murcielago or the Gallardo. Dinoman

Beverage, When I drove to my friend's house to see his new Gallardo Spyder, he had asked me to bring the SLK, as he had not yet seen it. I think that one of the reasons why I didn't (I had told him that it would be anticlimactic!) was a fear that the SLK would stop on the motorway on the way home out of sheer spite! :boink:Dinoman

I like it - though notice you have a 350 - so would more likely stop due to lack of oil (Here's hoping I've not cursed you )

Beverage, In light of my recent brake-by-wire problem (see my post) with the SL, I hope that I've had my share of MB gremlins for the time being! It seems that one or the other car will always come up with something to challenge my sanity. At least my dealer is reasonable to deal with. MB are not always as easy to talk to, and you need the buffer of a willing dealer. Dinoman

So far, so good, Bev. Thanks for the concern. It's been almost a month since the brake job, and I haven't received a single recall notice! Ain't life grand!!! Dinoman
