This is STRANGE Got into the ML last night after dropping off the daughter at Granny's house. Climbed in, started it up, put it in reverse and felt a strange jerk. Backed the vehicle out, put it in drive and the wife says, "there's a yellow light on the dash". At a split second, I thought CEL but it was the LOW RANGE light! I never turned it on! I've actually never used it before. This thing was driving real jacked up. I pull over in a parking lot, get out the owners manual and it said the low range can only be activated and deactivated with the shift selector in 'N'. I cut it back off by setting the selector in 'N' but what the hell happened that caused it to be activated in the first place??

I tried activating it in the 'P' position, it wouldn't work. I at first, thought that, too but I was the one who was driving and cut it off. What was funny, was that the wife and I were just talking about the wiring harness electrical problems in the S-Classes and why we won't buy one because of it, when this happened.

Do you have teenagers that might have taken the ML out for an “unauthorized” drive? If not, then who drive it last? Is it possible the button was accidentally pressed the last time it was driven? Maybe your wife did it and she’s afraid to admit it (my wife always has “issues” when driving my cars)?
