I picked up my new ML CDI on Friday a week ago. On Monday I get my registration card in the mail. I open it......The new regristration and title are registered to someone I do not know and also has my wifes name on the card. It appears the dealer registered the vehicle by Drivers license numbers and they incorrectly entered mine 50 digits off. I made it clear to the dealer that I did not want any problems with the title before I closed the deal. So I can tell you I am not a happy camper at this moment. In NC it is very difficult to get a title changed and still have it remain as a "A" title. I have not rested good since Monday from worring about how this will work out. I was assured they would correct the title, but I am not too sure they can do this easily. The holiday weekend will end and I will be back at the dealership on Tuesday for a detailed explanation and a serious discussion with the manager. If he does not satisfy my mind, I will go straight to my money hungry attorney. I have had a good working relationship with the dealership since 1976, I am not to sure that will continue.

If the dealer is not able to clean it up and produce a unblemished title, you could certainly sue (and easily win) for "diminished value".

I surely gave "Diminished Value" some though. I do not get my mail until late each evening. Saturday evening a corrected regristration card showed up in the mail box. Now I am waiting until The NC Division of Motor Vehicles sends me the title. When I traded, I made it clear that I did not want anything other than an "A" title. It I don't get that, then I am not going to be happy and I will seek compensation. I sure hope the title is OK, I get along well with those guys and I hope to keep it that relationship. I was really surprised when they told me they titled their new cars with a buyers drivers license number. Any error in that method could be unforgiving, especially knowing how the DMV works...kinds like Gustopo
