| Radiator Drain
Hi. New member to this forum but not to MB cars - I used to have a 280 SL Convertible until the arrival of kids made it impracticable. Just purchased a fairly old (2000) ML270Cdi which, although basically sound, needs a bit of work to put right, and the first job is to change all the fluids and filters.
Have just spent the last hour peering about underneath with a torch, but can't see anything that looks remotely like a radiator drain plug / tap / bolt / spigot ..........
It's a UK spec (right hand drive) vehicle. I realise I can just remove the bottom hose, but I can't believe there isn't a proper drain plug somewhere.
Is it on the same side as the bottom hose or the other side or in the middle or on the bottom ?
Have done a full search on this and other forums, but so far, can't find anything that helps.
All advice gratefully received.

Many thanks for the offer, but I just removed the bottom hose. Messy, but just as good I suspect. All back together again with new thermostat so all ready for winter now !

If there IS a drain tap of some kind, it is very well concealed !
Just the fuel filter to do now - although my car is a 2000 vehicle, the engine seems to be a 1999 version and the design changed at some point around that time. Mine is the paper element in a plastic housing, whereas the one listed for my year (and the one I first purchased) is the more recent metal disposable canister type. In spite of a reasonably good service history, I'm not convinced the pollen filter had even been changed - there was a huge build-up of muck and leaves and dirt on the old one - no wonder the air-flow felt a bit restricted !!

EPCnet shows a drain plug that is a simple screw in from the bottom of the radiator.
The WIS is different. See attached.

Thanks for that. I suspect the WIS may be correct BUT the "tap and spigot" bit are actually well hidden by the lower radiator mounting bracket, and the drain spigot actually goes through the r.h.side lower rubber mounting bush. If that's the case, the drain tap - which looks like it needs a quarter turn to operate, must be extremely difficult to access with a normal size hand.
Will have another look in daylight ........... and let you know.
