magda7211 Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Troble running afther engine change in Mercedes 230GE (?) Hello to all interested, sorry my english is not that perfect... And I am not that technical at all, my friend is but I can not let him do all the asking and searching so here my best explenation of our troble (I will use the dictionary) We owe (for 2 years now) a Mercedes GE230 from 1989, (and we are in love with it !!!) Anyway: At the beginning of this year we changed our old engine (that could not go harder than 80km/h) to a engine from a mercedes 190E (102; 2.3 16V; 4 cylinder). For some time our "Blue Monster" was running great but around 2 months ago he started to "hold in" When I am standing still (traffic light) and put in no gear the engine is going up and down on the revolution counter, sometimes he wants to go out so I have to open the trottle a little. If I step on the gaz to go the car seems to hold in. If I really want to go I have to pump on the accelerator and then he is going but still you can feel the holding inn. And that is offcourse no way to drive [ not fo a girl anyway ] Does anyone of you have any idea what went wrog (ore has broken?) Does any one has an idea what to look at or change? if there are any details or specifications feel free to ask as we are handy enough to give them and we are handy enough to work on the solution once we know how to look at. Thanks for your help, Magda. Edited by magda7211 6/26/2007 6:06 PM

Posts: 1010 | RE: Troble running afther engine change in Mercedes 230GE (?) just a suggesstion: start with the most obvious things, it dont hurt - replace the spark plugs, SP wires, cap and rotor, FUEL FILTER, run some injector cleaner with the fuel, if the truck is equiped with cat and O2 sensor - check them. If this don't help - go to the the specialised garage for diagnosting the problem.

It sounds as though you may have a clogged catalytic converter, this sounds similar to what happened when I blew the guts out of my cat, although I could be wrong...

hipine Date registered: Jul 2006 Location: US, CO, Bailey Vehicle(s): 460 1980 280GE w. 617A | RE: Troble running afther engine change in Mercedes 230GE (?) Is the engine running smoothly the whole time? In other words, are all cylinders firing with only the RPM changing, or is the engine running rough and "missing" with some cylinders not firing all the time? If the engine is running smooth and idle speed is wandering, I would perform a fuel pressure test like the one shown in the link below. This one is for the 280GE 6 cylinder, your specifications may be different, but by performing the test you could see if fuel pressure is constant (good) or if it's variable (bad). http://www.clubgwagen.com/gtech.php?pageTitle=G-Tech%20Article&sid=item&tid=31 If the engine is running rough and missing with some cylinders not firing, then I would look at potential ignition problems. My 280 GE was acting like you describe once before. An electrical diagnostic test performed by my local mechanic found the ignition coil to be faulty. But other ignition system components could cause similar problems. As stated by others, look at easy things (especially those that may have been neglected) first like fuel filter, spark plugs, etc. Good luck, and please do continue to share your questions and findings. And if all else fails, call G Centre near Amsterdam. http://www.g-center.nl/?page=contact They can help. Even though the engine is not original, the 16v engine works the same way the 8-valve one does. -Dave G.

Hello, I'm Magda7211 her friend. Things we have done yet; replace the spark plugs, SP wires, cap and rotor, FUEL FILTER, run some injector cleaner with the fuel. and installed new injectors. the truck is not equipped with cat and O2 sensor . all cylinders firing with the RPM changing, It looks it don't get enough fuel / air or the right mix of them Regards, Peter.
