Baja Expedition for the not-faint-hearted - Spring 2011

I'm looking for a very few good souls, together with a smaller, high clearance & dependable 4X4 - or some capable co-pilots to sign on to participate on an tough offroad Baja Sur Expedition in the Spring of 2011.

This expedition will be led by one of top Baja Backroad Guides/Guru and is set out to revisit some of the oldest roads used by the Spaniards in the 1750's.

Excellent 4x4'manship as taught by the Overland Training events is a must, physical challenge and remote outdoor camping will be encountered daily.

If you interested in such demanding challenge for 14 to 20 Days please contact me at:

RE: Baja Expedition for the not-faint-hearted - Spring 2011

You had me at "a few good souls" but I confess to feeling some butt sweat with, "demanding challenge for 14 to 20 days"

Really going Native on this one, eh?

Can you be more specific than "Spring 11", please?

Sounds awesome.

OK, it might be only for 7 days plus 4 days en route from the USA/Mexico border - Sprinter vans only for the en-route segment

I haven't set up my Sprinter to tow the G so I'd probably just drive that. Add two days from Oregon to SoCal, so maybe you're right on saying 14 - 20 days.

May is impossible for me but March or April..?

I love the idea, but the time commitment is huge.  So that would be 1 day to the border; 2 days down; 7 days of exploring; 2 days up to the border; 1 day home.  13 days total?  Ouch.  Does it really take 2 days from the border?  I guess it is a substantial distance.

Count me in! Just don't schedule it during the 3rd week in March.

Um, I like the idea of the old Spanish roads, but we're planning some beach tim too, right?

Re: Baja Expedition for the not-faint-hearted - Spring 2011

I guess for me that would be 6 days across the US 2 days down 7 days exploring 2 days back up and 6 days back home. 23 days for me.

This may be possible for me as I should have a new vehicle by then.

Get a Fliegeschein to La Paz, 4x4abx rental, one day up, 7 days exploring, 2 days down to La Paz - fly home or not.....

She wouldn't even know you are gone.....unless you fly back

RE: Baja Expedition for the not-faint-hearted - Spring 2011

we (Karl and I) will do a scouting trip this weekend to determine whether the whole thing (150 miles of virgin territory) will take a few days, a week or whether its impossible
although "impossible" is not really in my vocabulary

it won't be as historic as "first to reach the North Pole" - but it'll be something nobody has ever done in a 4x4
so get your G's tuned and ready if you want to be part of it

late March sounds good to me

I'm very interested. that's a lot of breakfasts in bed. and even then, I'm not sure breakfasts in bed are enough currency to buy a week + of freedom.

Dude, it's a couple days down and a couple back. You're right, you're in debt just pondering this along those lines. To buy that kind of time, you'll need to put the kids in the kennel and send her to a spa WHILE you're gone! Good luck hombre. Maybe we should join forces. Let me know if you find a good kennel.
XO

p.s. You just passed me on 6th. I was in a Prius and scared for my life.

Tracking Karl and Harald's trip - looks to be a great adventure. The elevations are greater than I had thought likely on Baja P.

even though only designed as a scouting trip, we were able complete the impossible
went where nobody went before (in a car)
a spectacular trip!
