Baja California - paradise for any explorer

recovering from our last Baja (Föteli) Expedition. Stunning scenery, bad weather, clients with a very strange language (Swiss) - and still just another exceptional expedition. This is the stuff very very few other people get to see (not found on Expedition Portal): http://carlosnpainter.smugmug.com/Travel/Baja-California-21912/2180... (sorry, no captions yet)

And to answer a question from the G forum: "When you are going on an expedition with friends from out of town, do you have the trails "pre planned", or do you make the trip up as you go along based on driver skill, etc?

I know you stay in a certain area, so it is not like you are going in blind."

No pre planning. Anything between the US border and the southern tip is open for the groups. The group will have to decide where to go - I only make recommendations and help them to get to the destinations. Mostly on routes that are rarely ever traveled.

Re: Baja California - paradise for any explorer

the women on my last trip truly enjoyed the adventure (I was happy as a pig: two cool women, a cigar, a Corona, desert and plenty of sunshine)

get going!

Some of the forum members, that have hesitated initially, now keep coming back for more a couple of times a year - one even bought property. Mexico is not what the media tries to tell you. And the US is not what you think it is.

Nice pics Harald. Yeah, looks like paradise...all year 'round! Here we get the rains, and the snow...it really helps to put things into perspective; we're trully happy when the summer comes!...yeah, whatever...I'm just jealous I'm not there
So, did you find that photography course helpfull?

Re: Baja California - paradise for any explorer

Have you ever had any security issues during your travel? Were you ever hassled whilst sleeping on the beach? Beautiful "fotos"...

Re: Baja California - paradise for any explorer

the only hassle on the beach whilst sleeping (in 25 years) were other guys snoring a bit loud - although I hear that I sound like an angry bear

security? in all those years while camping I have never even closed the doors of my car and the key stays in

never seen a bandido (can'y say that from the time I lived in Los Angles)

when you meet locals, they rather give you something than take from you

lost a Maglite at one of the camps - found it 15 years later (slightly bleached on the sun exposed side), only needed new batteries

no scorpion attacks
no rattlesnake visits
no puma bites

lotsa contact with cactus (painful!)
occasional sting ray hits (super extraordinarily painful!!!)

I feel so safe, that I sleep without a tent right on the ground. Most of my clients follow my example and have trouble later to adjust to the confinement of a hotel room

Adi,

guys don't want to hear about guys in the group - they want to hear about the women. Even better they want to see them.

But hey, here is (almost) everyone together

RE: Baja California - paradise for any explorer

Had to do a little search on Coco.... What a character... "Part Mexican, part American, part Alien"! Ha!

http://cocoscorner.com/. Middle of no where.....!  (ignore address in upper right--that's not Coco!)

Harald,
Have you hijacked your own thread? Maybe DUTCH will start a new forum; "Undies we wear on G-Treffens"!
