Land Rover people

So im walking out of the market when i see two guys about 40 years old looking at the G. I walk up and say hello, conversation goes like this:

Them. That yours?

Me: Yes

Them: You take it off road

Me: sometimes

Them: oh... you ever had a Rover?

Me: No the wife would not me get a D90 or 110.

THem: a what?

Me: Defender 90

Them: oh oh yea I got a discovery, You should have gotten one two. They are awsome and go like crazy off road.

Me: We considerd a Range rover but the closest dealer is 180 miles away.. long way to go when it has a problem

Them: Rovers dont have a problmes. Weve gota Discovery. Funny ive never seen you on the hard trails around here... You live around here?

Me: Yea yea i do..

Them: did you just get it, ive never seen it before.

Me: Yea back in nov 02..

Them... Ah... yea.. well you should have gotten a diso man... they are awasome, they do this and this and this and that....

Me: Now i have figured out they 1) dont understand what im saying or 2) are not listening to what im saying...3) dont give a poop of what im saying 4) just retarded..
So i go really that sounds nice, where do you guys go off road at? Maybe i can join you guys...

Them...... Yea yea maybe some time...

Then they walk off... with the one guy telling the other guy my stuff is ugly and he would have gotten a rover for sure...

What strikes me as od, is i also get that same qustion.. You take that off road. Now you all have seen my paint, and battle scars, I havent waxed or buffed the turck so its worse now that it ever has been.... but yet the same questions... I think next time ill just go No, those tree limb came over one night did that damage in the garage, im going to have make sure i shut the garage door next time.

I say 5)All of the above!!!

Man..... A Land Rover person not knowing what a D90 or D110 is?!! what is this world comming to??

As a serious LR owner, and a G-wana-be too(sigh) resons of "closest dealer 180 miles away" is pure insanity! No dealer TOUCHES my $hit!! Those guyes have STUPID written on their foreheads!! I get the same thing from Hummer owners! They snub their noses at LR, and G's, I guess they think their crap don't stink!! They are usually A-holes too! Wonder why?........

Kerr, that was just another form of "flexing" for them. By the time they get to where they were going the story will have grown to "how they outwheeled a G....etc etc" while their tribal members look at them in awe asking for more stories of how superior their 4x4 of choice is and for more recruitment into their secret handshake club.

Re: Land Rover people

I sometimes carry pictures of my some extreme off-road adventures. I usually leave them in the seat pocket behind the front seats.
I will show them some of the pictures, and then ask them if they would like to meet me there some time...

RE: Land Rover people

the thing is that l/r owners think they were the first on the planet and look down on all else, which seems sillybecause they forget the icon....."JEEP" .one off my customers owns a lovely 90,but he always has a dig at my G.I always laugh at him and say nothing, that winds him up more.i have owned a brand new disco and defender when living in n-cyprus,but what do i own now

Man, that sounds just like my conversations with "jeepers" when I'm driving my 90!

Seriously though, discos are great if you need to go get your kids from soccer practice or hit the mall in a snowstorm.

Perhaps a minivan on steroids. The ML is actually physically wider and has wider tracking than the G.

Re: Land Rover people

The ML is/was a great vehicle for what it is/was. I say was due to the fact that the 163 series had a two speed transfer case. Off-Road Pro is of course unavailable on the ML these days. However, if set up correctly, i.e. tires, torsion bars cranked a bit like mine, it is a fairly capable off-roader, however, as you can see, I own a G-Wagen too...so that should tell everyone here that beyond my love of my old ML, mechanical problems aside, there are just some places I wouldn't/couldn't take my ML but am more than excited to go motoring along in my G.

RE: Land Rover people

i left my 1-2-1 fitness club on monday night and saw a new model ml parked right next to my G.I think it looked really nice (for my wife and daughter)but the only thing i compare to the G is the wrangler,(although its not as practical.

dont get me wrong the 90 is a great tool no doubt, but after owning a G NOTHING COMPARES!

as for my disco 300 tdi,the valve hit the piston on day 2 with 163 miles on the clock ,and i was just beginning to think hmmmmm...... maybe it is as goog as a G

I am now thinking of selling my clk55 cab and wise-up a little.i will however get another vehicle ,this time a mint 460 swb to complete the collection i have

RE: Land Rover people

Agreed. What do you guys care what anyone else thinks? To each his/her own, live and let live, etc..
FWIW, I ran into a D110 owner at a gas station recently, and he was a very nice guy, and we had a pleasant conversation.
Not once did I think that his dog loves him more than my dog loves me or v.v. because of the cars we drove :-)

Peace,
Leon
