Well I am now the proud owner of a well-kept 280GE - thanks James! (gentleman is a generous term! ) I started this quest five months ago full of idealism thinking I would find a pristine 463 diesel (sure they're in Germany, not in the US) for under $20k. What I am getting is as nice a truck as can be had anywhere, albeit not a diesel, and it's a 460 LWB. I have learned a lot reading all the relevant info on P3 and clubgwagen and I want to thank everyone for their generous sharing of information. I'm arriving in Abq. Noon Monday, and my return trip to Oregon will possibly go through Santa Fe, Durango, Moab, SLC, Boise and lots of desert landscapes. I promise to post some good shots of me with my new G in all the best scenery along the way! Stay tuned... Edited by woody 5/31/2007 7:21 PM

But now my question - if you can get a 2000 G500 as per the other thread for ~$25K, why can't you get an older 463 for less than $20k? It would seem logical... Thanks Maxwell! the journey is the point (well, and parking my new G in my garage at the end of it, too!) As to your question - I just didn't see many early 463's out there. Ones I did see were in the low to mid $20's. Maybe those owners don't really want to part with their G's just yet... In my budget the 460 was it. And with the diesel craze about to hit us - those are inflated now. A '79 300GD sold for $20k recently on eBay - although it did have that cool "biodiesel" sticker on the back, that's gotta be worth a couple grand! Just my thoughts...

Ed Mclass - 6/1/2007 6:49 AM I see you had the old club sticker in the rear window! Not to hijack this thread; but I was a member of the MBCA for over 25 yrs and was one of the original signatories on the petition to found the Peachtree Section in the mid 1970's. I finally got sick of being treated like a bastard step child for driving a grey market MB, so I didn't renew

Dave, thanks for the contact number. I may just call to say hi! Besides, "trouble" often just means "adventure" to me (although I won't have many tools with me) Dutch - Thanks for the great pictures! I climbed the Großglockner in 1983 with a high school group. One of the best times of my life! One of those weird coincidences of the universe, I suppose!

Jonathan Have you looked at his Gallery. He had a great one of either Berstein or Karajan (don't remember which) which unfortunately is no longer up. Actually I have noticed that many many G Owners take some brilliant photos. Harald and Brent off the top of my head. There are a few others too but too many pictures to remember who took what.
