I think the specs are so narrow that the only vehicles in the US that would use it are MB vehicles. I think it's one of the few low-ash synthetics out there, but it doesn't meet the API CJ (or even the older CI-4 spec) that most of the diesel pickups would require. I can't imagine many stores would want to carry a product with so narrow a customer base.

CDI have exhaust filters that could become clogged if this oil is not used. Most engine burn some oil. So why not buy it from your dealer? I get mine from my dealer; and I am "the public". It comes 6 qts/case and cost me $5.25/qt. That's not an unreasonable price.

I just was surprised that I could not go to a store and buy the oil. Its not about price its about being available

Would this be spec? No. For the 2007 CDI engine it must be Mobil 1 ESP Formula M 5W-40. The ESP stands for Emission System Protection. Not sure what the Formula M means.

I ask about the oil M1 ESP is the only oil used $8qt. JAM I paid $5.25/qt in 6 qt/case lots. Because of the ways it's formulated to protect the CDI diesel particle filters, I would not use it in a gasoline or non CDI diesel engine.
