raised air intake

hello all
I am in the process of converting a petrol G into a 300GD to use on off road weekends and fancy fitting a raised air intake as this is a 1984 G 460 I don't think Mercedes made a raised air intake for this modal .
Its all been done before so what have other people used to fabricate there's ?
is there a kit from an other motor that can be used ?
cheers
Cliff

RE: raised air intake - Photo Added

Do you mean one like this ?

There was a post on the other forum that listed all the parts needed, there is also a UK guy on there that knows a hell of a lot of stuff about military conversions going back to the early 80s neither of them have showed up here yet, but I expect they will.

My file sizes are too big, I need to investigate how I can alter them.

No, it's not OEM. It's made in Spain by CSA http://www.csa4x4.com/

Re: raised air intake

now that's a tidy intake but I notice on the CSA site its on the wrong side of the motor for a 460 is the air filter on a different side on later modals ?
or has the picture been put on the site wrong ?
Cheers
Cliff

Special Setup

Mounted my own special Snorkel-Setup.
Its an original Schmude Snorkel for W460, but it is about 15cm shorter than the normal one.
They modified it for my to fit a Safari-Air-Intake ... fits perfect and looks great.

Greetings, Arnd

Below you can see the orig. Schmude-Snorkel I had before.

Greetings, Arnd.

P.S.: The old Snorkel is for sale ... 2 years old and in a very good shape.

The correct web site is http://www.csap2000.com, and they have both for right and left side.

RE: raised air intake

A few people here in Australia have fitted snorkels to 460 300GD's without too much trouble. The first photo is a Schmude snorkel and the second is an Australian made Safari snorkel to suit a HJ60 Landcruiser although it is as expensive as buying the factory (as per the Canadian miltary G ) snorkel.

Re: raised air intake

I like the looks of this one...

Does anyone have any pictures of a snorkel on a G320? Any pictures on the engine compartment?

RE: raised air intake

Here some pics of the installing of a Schmude-Snorkel to my 280GE (all required parts are included!).

At Gs with the air-intake at the fender they are simply attached over these intakes ...

Greetings, Arnd
