Having just crossed Iceland from north to south, going on the F26 Spregnissandur track. There was a unplanned 6km drive on paved road (they paved a former gravel road to access a hydropower plant) Other than that is was going on rough tracks that kept us in 2nd, 3rd and the rare 4th. gear for long periods of the time. Still we managed a consumption of 12L / 100km. You gotta love the 2.9L diesel. I enjoy this type of landscape very much. Yes it is rough, dusty and no vegitation for 2-300km. But it is beautiful in it's own way (_DSC3034.jpg) (_DSC3014.jpg) Attachments ---------------- _DSC3034.jpg (279KB - 28 downloads) _DSC3014.jpg (545KB - 26 downloads)

Here are a few photos of my recently purchased G55 Classic's first trip into the desert. After being a long time Land Rover Defender owner I stumbled across this immaculate 2000 G55 Classic with on 61000 kms on the clock & could not resist the purchase. I am yet to determine its exact role in its previous life, but it started out with the Dubai Government as a part of the Royal Fleet, then was briefly owned by a 3rd party who sold it for a profit after it was released from the Governments fleet to the next owner who was a German who lovingly owned if for around 4 years and sold it due to circumstance of a growing family & the need for a GL500. It is a 99 build with a M113.982 Engine, I think it was probably part of the security detail as it has an armoured vehicle front axle which is heavily braced, ORC +40mm rear springs, 3rd row seats, factory fitted siren and a communication system where you communicate externally without having to lower the windows. It also still has a pistol holster in place next to the drivers leg. It initially came with 16's fitted & I am not sure when the current 9.5 x 18's were fitted but they certainly suit the vehicle. Apart from a few minor scratches & paint chips it is in as new condition, there are not many vehicles of this age in this condition so it was a sale I could not refuse. For the time being the G55 will remain my daily drive & tourer and my long suffering 110 will remain my vehicle of choice for heavy duty off roading as it is better set up and does not matter if damaged. So far my only plans are to fit a set of 285/65/18's or 275/70/18's when the current 285/55 series tyres wear as I am in desperate need to get some more clearance under the armoured front axle housing which currently acts as a large plough in the sand which is not ideal for desert use.

Sorry I do not have any photos of the additions yet, but if you look at the 3rd photo you can just see the lightening holes for the bracing under the front axle. I will post some other photos when I get a chance.
