Re: Skyway Motorway in the Talladega National Forest - Treffen?

The wife (also pregnant) and I are interested in joining. Is this still happening? What are our options for camping? We have a RTT but bathroom facilities would be nice!

You are welcome to join the fun!
The date and the first days route is firm now with a proposed day two posted earlier in this thread. The plan is to overnight at Cheaha State Park. You can find the link posted earlier as well. They do have restrooms.

RE: Skyway Motorway in the Talladega National Forest - Treffen?

Getting excited about the trip. It's forcing me to address some things on my 460 that I've been putting off: new brakes, leaky trans oil pan, change the belts, etc.

I noticed that it's going to be veteran's appreciation weekend (i.e. free admission to vets) at the Choccolocco Mt Off Road park: http://www.choccoloccomountain.com/index.html

I've never been there, but I'm told it has trails for all levels.  It could be interesting if we find ourselves looking for a place to ride on Sunday.

Anyway, looking forward to meeting everyone!

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner!

That sounds like a great addition to the trail on Sunday for those interested. I'll do a pre-run on the Sunday route in the next few weeks and report back here.

We have five trucks signed up at this point with some very diverse drivers. Looking forward to it!

I, too, am looking forward to it. I plan to be at Cheaha State Park on Friday afternoon. Look for me somewhere in the campground.

Thanks Dutch. I'm happy to be unique, I just hope I can keep up with you V8 guys.

Actually, I'm hoping that when my wife sees a 463 then she'll agree that we need to get one. I'll need you guys to help me with the sales pitch.

No V8 here. Just a humble 6 cyl turbo diesel. You can slum with me anytime.

Looking forward to it.

Re: Skyway Motorway in the Talladega National Forest - Treffen?

I checked out most of day 2's route last night. The fall colors should be perfect for our trip. The NF roads north of I-20 are well maintained gravel, no ruts or mud, some washboard, but very scenic. I didn't drive the paved section from Cheaha SP to the dirt North of I-20, shouldn't be any surprises. At the end of a 2,500 mile road trip, for me the dirt was welcome but the extra pavement was just unbearable.

That is correct.

I'll post directions and timeline again in the next few days when I have a chance.
