Transmission problems

Gentlemen, I have a 2000 W163 with 91000 miles. The transmission is completly slipping in all gears when it warms up. When I first get in the car it starts up and shifts just fine. There are no noises, grinding, nothing. After a few minutes of driving it starts slipping again. I brought it into the dealership and they initially stated I needed a new Valve body, after the dealership installed the new Valve body the problem did not go away. Now they state I need a complete rebuild. Any thoughts on this? Could there be something else going on? I want to explore all my options and get as many opinions on this as I can. My dealership wants $5500.00 for a new rebuild. This is a lot of money for me and I just want to make sure there is nothing else that could be wrong that is making my Trans act the way it is. Any help would be appriciated.

Thanks,
Dan

RE: Transmission problems

A number of people have had similar problems. Mercedes used to advise that replacing the transmission fluid was not necessary but they have since changed their minds and different dealers make different recommendations, mine says change it once after 40K miles.

Some people who have fitted performance chips in their ML270's have had to replace their transmissions, possibly due to the extra engine torque.

If you say in which area you live one of us may be able to recommend a good independent transmission specialist who usually charge about half that of the dealer.
