Torsion Bar Popping

Well, I have lubed and lubed as Wolfgang suggested but it still pops. I'm off to the MB mechanic to get the kit installed. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Is this the front or rear?

The front on both sides. The bars run from the front to the area under the rear passenger door. These suckers are LOUD, too!

Re: Torsion Bar Popping

When does the popping occur?

I am getting a thump sound whenever I make a hard turn going over a curb. I took it in to the dealer, they lube the rear sway bar but that didn't fix it. Wondering if it could be the torsion bar. Please post what happens and if they fix it.

RE: Torsion Bar Popping

The torsion bar makes a 'popping' sound when I stop and then start to accelerate. I do not notice any noises on turning. Just sudden stops and starts. It sounds as if something is going to snap off!

Thanks Wolfgang, for whatever reason the second page did not post in mine.
We both had the same revision, but that second page is very important.
Thanks again.

RE: Torsion Bar Popping

Thanks Wolfgang and Noodles. I only wish MB would goodwill this repair since it seems all ML's will do this in time.

Re: Torsion Bar Popping

No problem, I thought mine wear bad and bought the parts $26.
Took it all apart and they were fine. It turned out to be the bushings.

benzitsoatl - 11/25/2007 9:42 PM Wolfgang, I can't se the TSB's. Can you post?

I believe I have the TSB's on my computer at home. If I find it, I'll post this p.m. I eventually got the popping to stop by lubing with industrial strength silicone. I never got the repair done. All's quiet now.

Attached below. I never had it done since mine never had this noise. My torsion bars are cranked up about an inch.
