Brake light, low pad warning light

On the 2002 ML320. Sporadically comes on. I just knew it couldn't be the front pads because they were put on there new 27,000 miles ago. I looked through the wheels at the calipers and sure enough, the 'squealer' is about 1/16" away from the rotor. I guess it'll be Wagner quiet stops this next time. The pads were installed by the dealer who sold it to us in Houston.

Re: Brake light, low pad warning light

i'm curious which pad wore out first, the inner or outer one?

my truck seems to wear out the inner ones first. curiously, from the factory, the sensor WAS wired to the outer pads (??). i switched them all to the inner pads.

FWIW

The same with me, so I now also connect the sensor to the inner pads.

RE: Brake light, low pad warning light

Well, the inside pad was 1/16" thinner than the outside ones.

Re: Brake light, low pad warning light

Also, when you have the pads checked, have them check the brake line at the rear for chaffing. Reports are that in isolated cases the line has worn through causing a loss of brake fluid. The fix is simple and free, they add some clips to keep it up and away from any vibration. 2000-2002.
