Alignment: Is it just me?

Or is it difficult to keep these ML's aligned? We took our 2002 in last winter and had a 4 wheel done. Now, the rear tires are wearing on the outside. They either didn't do their job or I've got some suspension issues. We are having similar issues with the 99. It seems the rear wheel alignment is causing the problem.

Hmm, no problems with mine since we got it. All of the tires have almost the exact same even wear.

RE: Alignment: Is it just me?

I get uneven wear and not all of it is due to the myriads of roundabouts we have here.

I will get the alignment checked when I buy the next set of tyres.

its just you!

ok, just kidding.

so far, knock on wood, 93000 miles, my tires have worn perfectly evenly. except the center of all tires seems to wear out first on 3 sets of tires. i'm starting to wonder if the recommended pressures are too high (duuhh). so, anyway, i've never had it touched.

seems like i read 'horror stories' here or on other forums about screwed up alignments a long time ago; plus some chumps will probably tell you that you need new ball joints and tie rods when you dont really.

Rear ball joints have always been known to wear prematurely on the W163.

Re: Alignment: Is it just me?

I have been through 3 sets of joints at 170k miles. When they are solid the vehicle tracks well
and tire wear is good and even. Just a bit of feathering on the fronts which most AWD vehicles suffer from.
I do align it once a year like clockwork, every 2nd to 3rd alignment I get a call that they can't get a
good alignment due to worn out ball joints. I do toss it around in the corners and the roads are
very bumpy up here.
