RE: My central locking quit working today

I just wanted to update this thread to share that I pulled off this task today and I couldn't be happier. My auto locks work again! I've been entering the truck every morning thru the passenger door for over a year. God, what a difference this makes. I ordered the necessary relay below from Vlad and the install took about an hour. The directions below from Danny and LPG are perfect. Thanks everyone for a very valuable thread!

RE: My central locking quit working today

Hi everyone, I am new to the forum and now that I have a G320 in need of some deferred maintenance repair...here I am.

It just started raining in LA 2 days ago and the central locking is dead and of course the truck will not start, but turns over normally. I have researched the forum including this thread for solutions. I believe its most likely the relay, either bad connections or bad relay. My problem is I can't find the relay. It does not appear to be located where others say it should be.

Truck is a 1996 G320 imported by Europa, inline 6 cyl.

Re: My central locking quit working today

I figured out what the problem was and going posting here for the record in case this info is needed. The problem was simply the remote, still not sure what is wrong with it, but luckily I have a second remote and it works fine. I tried 3 sets of new batteries, so there is something else.

However, in the process of looking for the problem, I found the central locking relay module which is located behind the glove box on my 96. Interestingly this "Kiekert" A 009 545 19 32 relay is a common item found in many cars which is readily available at the MB dealer. It takes a 2 seconds to replace, once the glove box screws are out.

I had similar conditions. I opened up all of the door panels and gave the internal locking and latching mechanisms a good going over with Break Free CLP. Not sure what exactly MB calls for but I've had great luck with CLP. Since doing this, I've had zero issues with the locks opening or closing.

Ah! The ex-military guy with his weapons lube. That CLP is excellent stuff. Beats 3 in 1 oil any time any day. It also does very nicely to wick up into and lube the door hinges.

Re: My central locking quit working today

1. if there's friction in the system it can break the actuator. I had this happen on one of my rear doors... it's make a noise like it was trying to move, but the gears inside the actuator had broken due to stress.... and they shouldn't necessarily go up and down without any force, you should hear the gear spinning as you push it up and down. If it's loose then it's probably broken, but if all 4 aren't moving it also doubt it's the actuator... it's be shocking for all to break at once.

I've almost had to replace the fuel door mechanism, but it turns out that it's casing had merely separated so i glued and ziptied it back together and it's working fine ever since. (basically the same module as for doors but just slightly different). PS. Just glueing it didn't work because the glue failed, so zip tie it for sure if you're already in there.

2. what's this military gun lube stuff? is it kinda like aerokroil? There's some funky stuff in that so i'd be hesitant to use it on plastics...

RE: My central locking quit working today

Does the 2004 use the old pre-MBUSA locking relay?  These have a known failure mode where an internal solder joint develops high resistance.  The fix is easy.

RE: My central locking quit working today

If your pre-MBUSA G has an electronics box protruding into the engine compartment, then that is where you'll find it.  Otherwise it is up above the passenger's feet behind the fuse panel.

RE: My central locking quit working today

I think the 2001+ door locking system is completely different.  In any case, the part number A0095451932 doesn't show up on those models.

Re: My central locking quit working today

I hate to bring this question up again, but... My central lock seems to be very slow, I have to point the IR key right at the rear view mirror for it to work. When there is either glare on the windshield and/or when hot it will not unlock at all. Batteries are new in both keys. Is it the sending or receiving part? Ideas?

thanks

CLP stands for Clean, Lubricate, Protect. It is a firearms lubricant, and is the approved product for use by the US military. I would think you could get it at any store selling firearms. Break Free is the brand name.

Re: My central locking quit working today

Having same problems with the central door lock, all light indicators flash but the doors won't open or close. Push the door lock from inside and not other doors work either. Called Vlad and said the same thing that it was the "Kiekert" A 009 545 19 32 . just ordered it now just wait....
Thanks to all the information on the forum about this issue I was able to pin point the problem!

Saludos from Costa Rica.
