What year and model is your G? They do differ.

I'm going to take a W-A-G. See if the attached PDF helps.

RE: My central locking quit working today

Welcome me to the club, so to speak.

My symptoms are slightly different.

First a question:
Why is the only handle with a keyed tumbler on the passenger side?

On to my symptoms - locking always works. Unlocking will work 4 or 5 times, then won't. I think I get the green rear view mirror flashing... I'll have to pay more attention next time it won't unlock.

Also, when locking, the front top passenger turn signal doesn't flash while all the other lights are flashing. Related?

Sounds to me like a little judicious work with a small soldering iron on the PC board might be in order.

Also, my rear driver side door's lock knob recently broke, and the threaded screw isn't visible - (been meaning to open the panel and fix it but haven't had time) - possibly related?

I'll try re-syncing first. Otherwise it sounds like it's time to heat up the iron.

RE: My central locking quit working today

Just amazing... I found this excellent thread while trying to fix my G500 door locks, and not only did I find this thread, but I found out this has happened to me before and I posted it here!! I absolutely don't remember ever repairing this relay, but then I feel like I've had to fix virtually every electrical part on this truck, so I guess it's getting blurry now. Maybe I just need a new job.

RE: My central locking quit working today

Hi Dutch, thanks for the welcome. Sorry I don't get to hang out here much anymore, I'm sure I've missed a lot. I'll be doing some long delayed service on my G-Wagen soon, so I'll probably be around begging for help. One thing for sure, I sure miss it when I can't drive it!

Hope you and everyone on the forum have been doing well.

RE: My central locking quit working today

Since this thread popped back up, I've since gone into my door panels and lubed up the actuators. Took a lot of locks/unlocks, but it definitely helped and my locks have now worked every almost every time, even in extreme heat.

My signal flashers still aren't functioning as specified, so it's likely the circuit board needs the touch up mentioned earlier in this thread, but for now they're working...

Thanks again to this thread and P3!

Re: My central locking quit working today

I had my locks go the other day, I found 2 pins on the board that needed resoldering, that fault has now changed from not unlocking to unlocking a second after I lock all of the door.

I think I will have to resolder the 2 joints again as the fault changed but is not yet cured.

The lock relay thinks that your drivers door is open.  It signals that by first locking and then unlocking the doors.  Maybe the door sensor is failing?

Re: My central locking quit working today

Interesting, thanks for that mate.

Today it has been hit & miss, 60% of the time it has been locking/unlocking perfectly but the other 40% it unlocks itself again.

I wonder if one of the pins I resoldered gets the signal from the drivers door sensor.

My original fault was that the door locks made a half hearted click trying to open but did nothing at all & the green & red lights on the mirror were functioning correctly. This part is at least cured it is just the intermittent operation which needs resolving.

Re: My central locking quit working today

Time for an update, since the re-solder, for the first couple of days the locks were a bit hit and miss as mentioned above but since then they have been working perfectly for the last 4 months.

A keyed handle can be ordered for the driver's side as well. They are about $160 and you need to provide proof of ownership to be keyed to your vehicle. I had bought a 461 central locking switch for the center dash and sold it after I discovered this as I can't see how it would be needed with both front doors being keyed.

RE: My central locking quit working today

I have noticed that anytime my central locking always quits, it's usually from the fuse going out. This is like a once a month ordeal. What could be causing the fuse to trip so frequently. Any pointers will be great.

RE: My central locking quit working today

I would first check that I had the properly sized fuse in the socket. I would either get a new relay or resolder any suspect joints. I would also trace all grounds related to the central locking mechanism.
