When buying an ML, any particular "problem year" to avoid?

Hi,

I'm considering getting a used ML as a company car, in addition to my old G. I'm looking at the 270CDI.

Is there any special problem years I should avoid (like the 2002 G-class)?

I'm having a look at a 2001 model in the weekend.

I know very little about the European models. But, if they're all built here, I'd say stay away from 98-2000 models. The 2001 should be a better model year.

Oh, boy, was that car a nice one...

It looked brand new, both inside and outside. Tan interior.

The only things I found wrong were a couple of blown bulbs in the AC switches, a blown bulb in the parking light and a liitle squeak from a bushing in the rear.

It's only been driven 81000km.

I'll take for a purchase check at NAF (the Norvegian version of AAA) before deciding though. Rust underneath could be an issue, but from the otherwise pristine condition of the car, I doubt it...

RE: When buying an ML, any particular "problem year" to avoid?

Any way to tell where it was made?  I have a '01 430 (Alabama) and I have to say that every problem I have had since buying it new was a result of substandard parts that MB has been delivered by subcontractors, mostly made in North America.  The basic vehicle has been great and relatively problem free.

If a new owner goes through the warrante system and gets MB to fix all the annoying bugs when the car is new, you should have a good car for the duration. Of course, there is no fixing a used car that had an abusive prior owner.

If I lost my '01 - I would consider buying another. [ '98-'00 - I'm not so sure about. ]

It just all depends, I had an early 1998 from new that between my brother and I we put 228k miles on with very few problems. It's like anything else, luck of the draw I'd say

Some even have had a trouble-free early Vito...
